Premature Dress Buying?

I have seen this dress on a couple of real brides lately. Everytime I see it I fall in love with it all over again and I wonder where she got such a pretty dress. Lo and behold, I'm searching through the J Crew sale and there it is! For $80! Now, let's remember, I'm not even engaged yet (technically) and the wedding wouldn't be for another year and a half. My best friend says to think about it over the weekend. What do you think?

Do I snag this deal now and then re-sell the dress if I change my mind (it's selling on Ebay for $189)? How early did you buy your dress?

It's pretty. It's white. It's $80. It's a GO!

You can always sell or dye it later on should you change your mind...?? Just sayin' ;)

i say it's $80 and you could always dye it another colour and wear it elsewhere if you didn't want it later.

i bought mine WAY too early. i was engaged but we have to have a 3 year engagement. so i bought it almost 2 years early! my sister and i went to a bridal shop just for fun and i found it there for $400 so i couldn't leave it there.

i agree with the ladies above and say definitely think about it over the weekend, if you have the cash and LOVE it...then do it. then you can always start the spending freeze on monday AFTER the purchase, if you can't live without ;) it's reeeaaalllly beautiful! xoxo

here's a long story that ultimately says "yes, buy the dress."

A woman I work with bought an on-sale JCrew dress for a girl that would become her daughter-in-law because she knew the girl loved the dress. At the time, the girl wasn't even engaged to her son, so the woman kept it "in a safe place" until "the time was right". The girl ended up not wanting to wear the dress at her wedding, but she trimmed the hem, dyed it, and wore it to all her fun pre-wedding stuff like bridal showers and the rehearsal. Brilliant!

Thank you all! I was driving home from work and just could not stop thinking about the dress and that if I didn't buy it now I would kick myself later. So I bought it! Yay! I want a shorter dress so I'll probably end up defacing this beauty and cutting a yard off. I'm really happy with my decision and I couldn't have done it without you!

I would totally go for it! For $80 bucks if you change your mind it's not a huge loss and you can always resell it!

YAY!!! i have an idea...bring the dress to maine with you (on a hypothetical-in-the-near-future-visit) and my grandma (a seamstress, who is genius with wedding gowns) will alter it for free while we sip champange & craft in the garden! congrats :)

I bought my dress over a year before my wedding date and love it more and more every day.

I would go with your gut.

Holy crap, that's a good deal! If you really like it then go for it! If you decide you want something else then you can just re-sell it :D

I started dress searching around September (getting married May 23). I'm glad I started that early, b/c my first dress ended up not working out!!

Such a great deal. I'd say go for it and if you change your mind you can just sell it or pass it along to a friend.

Yes, yes, yes! For $80 you cannot afford to pass it up. I say go for it! If you find something better you can always have it shortened by a tailor and wear it to your engagment party/rehearsal dinner dress, no?

It's only $80. If you find another dress you like, wear this one to the rehearsal dinner!
