I have been feeling conflicted for sometime about weddings, engagements and money. We all know that the economy sucks. A lot of my friends are getting laid off and things are tight for everyone right now. McG and I want to pay for everything ourselves and it will take awhile to save enough but I still feel like I shouldn't be wasting money on even the engagement stuff. Should we be saving our funds for a rainy day? What if we get laid off? Then there is the whole guilt complex I have about people who will have to pay to travel or pay for gifts. It just seems like too much right now. I would almost feel better just eloping and then having a big party when things turn around. How are you coping with the economy? What budget savvy tips did you discover along the way to the alter?

i would totally understand if you eloped...but PLEASE DON"T! i wanna be there! totally selfish of me, but i do. i'll cater it and grow the flowers if you want me to!
i agree...your wedding would be too amazing to not have and i don't care if i had to start working at that no-tittie-tittie-bar down the street to pay for it i would be there.
You two are adorable. I love you. Don't you worry I'll definitely be putting you to work!
I'm totally with you here. My parents wanted to pay for our wedding, but with the economy so bad they can't pitch in as much as they originally planned. We are definitely cutting back on things (i.e. less expensive menu, unnecessary rental items). We've also been talking about eloping since we first got engaged. The closer we get to the date the more I wish we had...
Less is more. Simple is beautiful. BYO Caterer and Alcohol is probably the best way to budget a wedding... if you can find the venue site you'd like...
It's still a special day, so its ok that you splurge on it. don't feel guilty. work hard, do the best you can do, but also reward yourself for your hard work and live!!! :)
